1,313 rescued after Bhotekoshi floods in Rasuwa; 3,071 still missing

RASUWA: Flooding in the Bhotekoshi River, originating near the Nepal-China border, has caused widespread loss of life and property across Rasuwa district. Authorities said 1,313 people had been rescued, while 3,071 remained unaccounted for.

Dhruva Prasad Adhikari, Assistant Chief District Officer and Information Officer at the Rasuwa District Administration Office, said joint operations involving security personnel and local residents had rescued 1,227 Nepali citizens and 86 foreign tourists affected by floods and landslides.

He said a further 145 pilgrims and residents stranded in the Gosainkunda area had been airlifted by helicopter to safety in Nuwakot and Kathmandu.

Security personnel, government officials and other workers are among those out of contact. They include 27 Nepali Army personnel, 28 Nepal Police officers, 13 Armed Police Force personnel, 79 government employees and 26 staff members from banks and financial institutions.

Authorities also reported that 1,370 Rasuwa residents and 1,262 foreign tourists who had arrived from other districts remained untraced.

However, the breakdown of missing people provided by officials totals 2,805, which is 266 fewer than the reported overall figure of 3,071.

Search and rescue operations are continuing across the affected areas.
